Fuzhou is the earliest Chinese-English translation newspaper in China. Fuzhou Chinese and English newspapers include: Fuzhou Courier, which was founded on October 12th in the eighth year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty (1858). It is the earliest newspaper founded by the church in Fuzhou. This newspaper reports the news inside and outside Fujian Province, and also introduces the customs of Fuzhou. This is a newspaper mainly for foreigners. Followed by Fuzhou Herald, Fuzhou Echo Daily, Fuzhou Echo Daily and Fuzhou Advertising Daily. Then, China Record was founded in 1868, presided over by American missionary S. L. Baldwan, and it is the organ of Presbyterian Church in America. These Chinese and western newspapers are only available in Fuzhou, and there are only one-way western newspapers in other parts of China, which shows that Fuzhou has always kept in mind the purpose of Westernization, learned from foreigners in both directions, and strived to be strong.
1899, Fuzhou Dream School was established-the cradle of modern democratic revolutionaries.
The founder of Dream School is full of patriotic enthusiasm. Lin Baishui advocated: "The first priority of saving the country is education. Only by arousing the attention of the whole country to state affairs can we talk about revolution. " Huang believes: "Today's affairs need revolution to save the country, and revolution should not precede education as innovation." Zheng Quan, another founder, often discussed with revolutionary comrades that "opening up the atmosphere and diluting people's wisdom", so Zhong Qin was called "the first person to import revolution in Fujian". Other founders or part-time teachers, such as Fang Shengtao, Chen, He Youxian, were all democratic revolutionaries at that time. These revolutionary volunteers guide running schools with revolutionary spirit, promote revolution through running schools, and train revolutionary volunteers.
The only backbone of China's modern history is Fuzhou, which has extraterritorial jurisdiction, so modern powers have consulates in Fuzhou, including Britain, the United States, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Russia, Japan, Austria, Hungary, Belgium, Italy and Mexico. At the same time, there are two or three consulates in Shanghai, two or three consulates in Beijing and none in Guangdong and Tianjin. Why? Because westerners exercise extraterritorial jurisdiction over them, they all lose their basic state rights. There is no need for foreigners to solve problems through consulates. Fuzhou has sovereignty over foreigners in China, also known as extraterritorial jurisdiction.
1895, Taiwan Province, Fujian Province was cut by Japan, and all the nearby islands were owned by Japan. The Fujian Sea in front of Fujian Province does not belong to Fujian, but the sea power is in the hands of the Japanese. Up to now, Fuzhou has faced the threat of Japan, and the opposition between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party has caused Fuzhou's economic difficulties totaling 130 years.
