Historical Evolution

The county was first established in the sixth year of Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty (201 BC), because of the "Book of Mountains and Seas" It is named after it is recorded that "there are giants from Jiangxi in the south". Another theory is that the two rivers merged in Ganzhou to form the Ganjiang River, hence its name.

The Western Han Dynasty belonged to Yuzhang County, and the county government was Yixiang River. Mangxin was under the jurisdiction of Jiujiang County. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, it was restored to Yuzhang County. In the second year of Xingping (195), Sun Ce divided Yuzhang County into Luling County, and Gan County belonged to it. In the fifth year of Wu Jiahe's reign (236) in the Three Kingdoms period, Luling County was divided into the southern governorate, and Gan County belonged to it. In the same year, Gan County was analyzed and relocated to Pingyang County (renamed Pinggu County in the first year of Taikang). In the third year of Taikang in the Western Jin Dynasty (282 AD), the southern commandery was renamed as Nankang County, and Gan County was placed under the jurisdiction of Nankang County. In the tenth year of Taikang (289), the county government moved to Ge Lao's old city (today's Shuidong area of ??Zhanggong District).

In the fifth year of Yonghe in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (349), the county and county governments were moved to the area between Zhanggong and Ershui (today's urban area of ??Ganzhou). Liu Song changed the county into a country, and Gan County belonged to Nankang State. Qi restored Nankang County, Liang and Chen Yinzhi. During the Chen Dynasty, Gan County and Nankang County exchanged their names. In the first year of Daye (605), they restored their original names. In the ninth year of Kaihuang's reign (589), Nankang County was renamed Qianzhou. In the same year, Pinggu County was merged into Gan County. By the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Gan County belonged to Qianzhou. Yang Wu of the Five Dynasties belonged to the Baisheng Army. The Southern Tang Dynasty changed to Zhaoxin Army. In the eighth year of Kaibao's reign in the Song Dynasty (975), it was renamed a state, and Gan County still belonged to Qianzhou. In the seventh year of Taiping and Xingguo's reign (982), 7 townships in Gan County (formerly Pinggu County) were analyzed and Xingguo County was established.

In the 23rd year of Shaoxing (1153), Qianzhou was renamed Ganzhou based on the meaning of the confluence of Zhanggong and Ershui, and Gan County belonged to it. Yuan belongs to Ganzhou Road. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it belonged to Ganzhou Prefecture. In the Republic of China, it was successively under the direct jurisdiction of the province or Gannan Road, the 11th Administrative Region, the Gannan Prefecture, and the 9th and 4th Administrative Regions.

On August 14, 1949, Gan County was liberated, and Ganzhou Town was established as Ganzhou City. Gan County successively belonged to Gannan Administrative Region, Ganzhou Prefecture, Ganzhou Region, and Ganzhou City. In July 1969, the county seat was moved from Ganzhou City to the current location of Meilin.

On April 5, 1987, Hujiang Township was divided into three townships: Hujiang Township, Gutian Township, and Huxin Township (Ganfu Tingzi [1987] Approval No. 165).
