Mei Lanfang, a master of Chinese Peking Opera, is excellent in color and art, and initiated the "Mei School" art school.
Lu Xun and Mei Lanfang are two masters of China. Both of them have created miracles in their respective fields and won glory for the Chinese nation. They are all the pride of China people.
But the relationship between these two people has always been very bad, and they have deep prejudice against each other, and even have no contact for life.
Why on earth is this?
Lu Xun and Mei Lanfang were strangers and had no previous lives. The only intersection between them is that1when Bernard Shaw visited China in early 933, he attended a family dinner hosted by Soong Ching Ling in his apartment.
1933, Bernard Shaw, a famous British dramatist, visited China. Lu Xun and Mei Lanfang attended the welcome banquet in Shanghai together. In fact, they have known each other for a long time. Although they ate at the same table, they were just like passers-by and never said a word.
The only face-to-face opportunity for two people did not communicate, so the opportunity for two cultural giants to ease up was missed, but it was a pity for a lifetime.
Later, Lu Xun wrote in "Looking at Xiao and People Looking at Xiao": "There are also some questions and answers between Dr. Mei Lanfang and other celebrities, but here, it is omitted."
In his letter to Tai Jingnong, Lu Xun said, "I saw him (Bernard Shaw) and Mei Lanfang answering questions together, which seems not enough."
This attitude is quite puzzling. But after reading Lu Xun's works, especially those about Peking Opera and Mei Lanfang, we can still see some clues.
Before that, Lu Xun satirized Peking Opera many times, even Mei Lanfang. Lu Xun has repeatedly mentioned Mei Lanfang in a disrespectful tone, mocking the art of Peking Opera.
The feud between Lu Xun and Mei Lanfang began with a sharp article published by Lu Xun.
1934, Lu Xun published an article entitled "On Mei Lanfang and others" under the pseudonym "Zhang Pei". The original text is:
"What he (Cheng Publishing House: refers to Mei Lanfang) did, without the help of the literati, was naturally vulgar, even filthy, but full of life. When I became a' heavenly girl', I was noble, but since then, I have been rigid and reserved. Seeing a fairy or sister Lin, I think most people would rather see a beautiful village girl, who is very close to us. "
Lu Xun made no secret of his disdain for Mei Lanfang in his article. He thinks that Mei Lanfang's opera is bad whether it pursues elegance or not. Not only that, Lu Xun also published his essay Reading Notes in August of the same year. He said in the book:
"For example, if we read A Dream of Red Mansions and know Lin Daiyu from the text, we should rule out Dr. Mei's preconceived idea of taking pictures of' Daiyu burying flowers' and think of another one ..."
What does this sentence mean? In other words, you can think about how Daiyu reads A Dream of Red Mansions, as long as you don't think of Daiyu as Mei Lanfang.
This view of Lu Xun actually echoes the article "On Photography and the like" written by him in his early years. He once satirized the performing arts of disguised as men:
"The greatest and most eternal art in China is that men dress up as women ... because both sexes are close to the opposite sex, men look at' dressing women' and women look at' dressing men', so they will always hang in the glass window of the photo studio and hang in the hearts of the people."
So it is not difficult to understand why Lu Xun satirized Lin Daiyu played by Mei Lanfang.
Lu Xun doesn't like Beijing opera, which is also undisguised.
He has only seen Peking Opera twice in his life, and he ran away without watching it. He thinks that Beijing opera is nothing more than "a large group of people fighting around" and "too unsuitable for survival" under the stage. He also said: "Facebook and gestures are algebra, so are they symbols?" Besides showing a clown with a white nose, drawing a face to show a strong man, riding a horse and pushing a watch to open the door, what can't be said or done? " Lu Xun's prejudice against Peking Opera reached this level.
Yu Dafu recalled Lu Xun's attitude towards Peking Opera. "I once said that if Yu Han wants to improve Beijing opera for publicity, he doesn't agree at all, and he said humorously,' Let's promote Beijing opera to save the country. "May I?" "

Mei Lanfang, who was deeply satirized by Lu Xun, naturally disliked Lu Xun.
1936 10, Lu Xun died, and all the celebrities in Shanghai cultural circles attended Lu Xun's funeral, but Mei Lanfang was absent.
After 1949, Mei Lanfang became the vice chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. Mei Lanfang is always absent from the annual activities to commemorate Lu Xun's birthday and death.
In addition, he and Lu Xun's wife Xu Guangping are both members of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. They often have meetings, dinners and photos together, but they are only limited to such official activities, and there is no intersection in private.
These practices show that Mei Lanfang complained deeply about Lu Xun, and even though the Sri Lankan people have passed away, they don't want any more contact.
