Due to frequent wars, droughts, famines and plagues caused by wars followed one after another. Zhu Yuanzhang's hometown Haozhou has long been riddled with holes and the people are scattered. Coupled with Zhu Yuanzhang's poverty, the two teenagers could not afford the funeral of three people, and even a decent coffin could not be prepared.
It turned out that Zhu Yuanzhang and his second brother Zhu Xian went to find the landlord, saying that they were looking for it, but in fact they were almost asking for it. For China people who pay attention to burial, anyway, a coffin and a graveyard are the most basic needs after death. The Zhujiajian brothers have already made up their minds: even if they run out of savings, even if they will starve to death tomorrow, even if they kneel for mercy, they will bury their parents and brothers with dignity. Although Liu De was a big landlord of Zhujiajian, he had no pity for a long-term tenant peasant family of Zhujiajian and drove away poor Zhu Yuanzhang and Zhu brothers. But there are also some good people. Liu Jizu, a distant relative of Liu De, made a move. Liu Jizu is also a big family in the village. After he knew about Zhu Yuanzhang's brothers, he sent his son Liu Ying to take them home. Not only did they have enough to eat, but they also specially gave Zhu Yuanzhang a piece of land of their own at the east end of the village as a graveyard for their parents.
Thanks a thousand times, the two men took a few rags and the only reed mat at home, roughly wrapped their parents and eldest brother and buried them in the land Liu De gave them. Then, like their ancestors, the two brothers are ready to flee separately. Before leaving, the two brothers cried and everyone was moved. Later, Zhu Yuanzhang recalled the scene of that year: My brother hurts for me, I cry for my brother, and God breaks my heart by crying? .
Later, Zhu fled, and Zhu Yuanzhang was young. Aunt Wang next door bought gifts with all her belongings and sent Zhu Yuanzhang to the temple at the head of the village as a young monk sweeping the floor and drawing water. Fifty days later, Zhu Yuanzhang left Huang Jue Temple and began his three-year vagrancy and begging career. Then he joined the Red Scarf Army in Guo Zixing, and Zhu Yuanzhang's legendary rise began. As for those two: Liu Jizu who buried Zhu Yuanzhang, and Aunt Wang who helped Zhu Yuanzhang enter the ancestral temple. In the 13th year of Zheng Zhi, Zhu Yuanzhang was 27 years old and was a general of the Red Scarf Army. At the end of this year, Zhu Yuanzhang came across Liu Da and Cao Xiu who came to defect in Haozhou. Liu Da is the second son of Liu Jizu, and Cao Xiu is the son of Aunt Wang.
When Zhu Yuanzhang saw these two men, his old ideas came to mind. He even asked about Liu Jizu and Aunt Wang, only to learn that Liu Jizu had died at the beginning of that year, and Aunt Wang died shortly after being sent to Zhu Yuanzhang's court. Zhu Yuanzhang listened? Sad and moved? He will be posthumously awarded the title of Yi Huihou, which will always accompany Daming and will never be abolished.
And Liu Dahe Cao Xiu was also accepted as a personal bodyguard by Zhu Yuanzhang. Twenty-six years in March, Zhu Yuanzhang's hometown was conquered by Wu Jun. This day happened to be three days after Zhu Yuanzhang's father died, and it happened to be the day of his eldest brother Zhu Xinglong's death, thirteen days before his mother died. In April, Zhu Yuanzhang returned to Haozhou with Liu Da and Cao Xiu to pay homage to his family.
When Zhu Yuanzhang returned home in rags, he gave every household in the village twenty taels of silver, and then went to the cemetery where his parents and eldest brother were buried in the east of the village to pay homage. Because of his persuasion, Zhu Yuanzhang, who wanted to dig up his parents' bones and rebury them, had to order the expansion of the mausoleum, and announced the appointment of Liu Da and Cao Xiu as grave keepers, who were solely responsible for guarding the tomb, and set up 20 grave keepers around the mausoleum, depending on the population's land grant, which was tax-free for ten years.
As for Liu De, the landlord who drove the Zhu Yuanzhang brothers out, Zhu Yuanzhang saw him in those twenty families, but Zhu Yuanzhang did not retaliate against him. Instead, he gave him 30 hectares of land and never mentioned the past again.
