Hui nationality is one of the most populous ethnic minorities in China. Hui people attach great importance to weddings. As a "lifelong event", its customs are mostly determined by the canon. In most places, Hui people strictly follow the form of one-way ethnic marriage, that is, Hui women can only marry men of the same race, while Hui men can marry women of other nationalities. As a multi-ethnic country, the wedding customs of different nationalities and regions vary greatly. Then, as a Hui nationality with a large population, what is their wedding process?

First of all, engagement in the process of hui wedding: Hui men and women must agree on a big wedding event when they reach a certain age. The man first invited the matchmaker to propose marriage to the woman's house. After the parents of both men and women take a fancy to each other, the woman receives a gift and then chooses to get engaged on the main hemp day, which is also called Daoxi. The man should give the woman gold jewelry, cash, clothes and other gifts, and the woman should also give the man a gift after receiving the gift. Parents of both parties discuss the specific wedding date and the matters that need to be prepared, such as the number of relatives accompanying them, vehicle arrangement, wedding venue, etc.

Secondly, the pre-marital preparation process in hui wedding: after the wedding date of the couple is agreed, the woman should inform her relatives, friends and neighbors of the good news two to three days before the wedding date, and don't prepare delicious food for the guests who come to congratulate. These guests will also prepare gifts and boxes for the woman. The day before the wedding, the bride will wash her face carefully, which is also known as the shower, and her hair will be twisted off, waiting for the wedding.

Thirdly, it is the wedding ceremony in the process of hui wedding: the man sent a bride-picking team to the woman's house and fitted her with equipment, including inner and outer clothes, shoes and socks, scarves and so on. After receiving the framed clothes from the south, the woman is still dressed up. Accompanied by farewell relatives, we got on the wedding car together. No matter who sends the bride off or marries her, there must be people with different elders, such as respected grandparents, uncles and aunts, brothers and sisters, and sister-in-law. The woman's father usually doesn't follow the wedding procession.

Finally, the word "hi" should be posted on the way to welcome the woman back to the man, and firecrackers should be set off. When the groom's door is approaching, the relatives and friends who came to congratulate stood in two rows to make way for the couple. According to the custom of Hui nationality, the bride is not allowed to get off the bus by herself, and her new shoes are not allowed to touch the ground. In some areas, the bride will be specially asked to put on new shoes before getting off the bus, and her mother's brother or groom will take her back to her new house.
