Five reasons not to buy DJI crossing machine DJI·FPV.
On March 2nd, 20021year, DJI Technology released the first-person perspective aircraft-DJI FPV. The promotion of this product from the beginning of its release is that it can be used for aerial photography like a traditional drone, and it can also experience the sense of flight speed like a crossing machine. DJI FPV can fly at will, with the maximum speed of 140Km/ h, the longest hovering time of 16 minutes and the longest flying time of 20 minutes. The matching flying glasses support high-definition image transmission, the screen refresh frequency is 144Hz, the farthest image transmission distance is 10Km, and the delay is as low as 28 ms

The listing of DJI·FPV is a great boon for Xiaobai, a drone enthusiast like me. You don't have to do your own DIY, you can fly casually, which has both the experience of crossing the plane and the experience of aerial photography. But after I got my hand and flew for a while, I found that there was still a big gap between ideal and reality.

Based on the experience of using DJI FPV for flight and aerial photography in recent 8 months, I have summarized 5 suggestions not to buy DJI FPV. I hope you can decide whether to buy DJI FPV after comparing your real needs. These suggestions are mainly aimed at the drone Xiaobai or the junior flying hand, and the master can control various models. These problems may be negligible.

Through the flying glasses, the crossing function allows the operator to get the first-person perspective and experience the immersive flying experience. In order to meet the flight speed and control sensitivity pursued by the operator in the flight process, the crossing machine is generally only equipped with a fixed camera. The target location of DJI·FPV is a cross plane. In order to ensure the consistency between the flying hand's vision and the aircraft's flight attitude, only a single-axis pan/tilt is configured.

DJI·FPV's single-axis pan/tilt has only one axis, and the camera lens can only rotate up and down. In normal and motion modes, the operator can manually adjust the up-and-down angle of the pan/tilt through the remote control wheel, while in manual mode (transverse machine mode), the pan/tilt angle is fixed and cannot be adjusted. When the traverse machine tilts or turns, the horizon in the field of vision will tilt accordingly. The operator can judge the flying attitude of the UAV through the field of view image, so as to operate correctly more effectively.

When DJI FPV is used as a traversal machine, the video recording effect is no problem. However, if DJI FPV is used as an aerial camera, the UAV flying in a straight line will always be in an inclined posture under the action of strong wind, and the horizon seen in the recorded video image will always be in an inclined state.

In order to obtain stable video effect, traditional aerial cameras are basically equipped with 3-axis pan/tilt. Between the fuselage and the camera, there are axes in xyz three directions. No matter the camera body is tilted in any direction, the horizon in the field of vision will remain horizontal.

The smooth picture from aerial photography may be slightly monotonous, while the visual effect of film with inclined horizon will be more shocking. However, the flight speed in the video is too fast, and the tilt angle of the field of vision changes rapidly, which will make the audience feel dizzy and uncomfortable. If you want to use DJI FPV as an aerial camera to shoot scenery films, it will be a better operation choice to properly control the flight speed and keep the inclination angle as fixed as possible.

We often see the night lighting effects of cities and buildings photographed by drones. DJI FPV takes the role of aerial photography into account in the advertisement, but if you want to try to use DJI FPV to shoot movies in low light environment, it will not be a good experience.

I once tried to shoot at night with DJI·FPV. The experience was really thrilling and almost ended in a bomber. There is also a big gap between the film obtained at night and the film obtained in the environment with good light during the day.

This gap is caused by the inherent deficiency of DJI FPV camera hardware, which is difficult to change. The camera of DJI FPV is a 1/2.3 inch CMOS sensor with120,000 effective pixels. The camera of DJI Air 2S is a 1 inch CMOS sensor with 20 million effective pixels.

If the scene you want to shoot is often in poor light at night, DJI FPV is really not a good choice.

In order to achieve better picture composition, the general aerial camera will have optical or digital zoom function. Because DJI FPV is positioned as a transverse machine, when flying in manual mode, the operator needs to pay all attention to the control of the transverse machine, and basically no zoom operation will occur. Therefore, DJI FPV is equipped with a fixed-focus camera that does not support any zoom function.

Compared with ordinary cameras, when using zoom lens, the photographer can be fixed in the same place, and the composition requirements of the subject can be achieved by changing the focal length of the lens. Fixed-focus lens requires the photographer to constantly move back and forth to achieve the composition requirements of the subject closer or farther.

The zoom lens matched with ordinary aerial camera only needs to adjust the focal length of the lens when shooting the composition of far and near scenes. DJI FPV is equipped with a fixed focus lens. In order to change the size of the object in the framing, it is very dangerous to control the traversing machine to be close to or far away from the photographed object.

The lens field of vision of DJI FPV is only front 150 degrees, and the obstacle avoidance perception system is only front and back. When we have to lower the height of the drone to take a clear image of the object. When flying left and right or backward for better composition, it is impossible to see whether there are obstacles in the left and right and rear of the flying glasses, and the obstacle avoidance perception system can not give us effective help and tips.

In this case, the probability of the bomber is greatly increased, so it is generally recommended to have an observer to assist in flying DJI FPV and try to keep DJI FPV within sight.

Everything in motion has inertia, the greater the mass, the greater the inertia, and the faster the speed of motion, the greater the inertia. We say that the self-gravity inertia of DJI·FPV is mainly compared with its flight speed.

Take DJI Air 2S as a comparative reference with DJI FPV.

The horizontal maximum flight speed of DJI FPV manual mode is close to hourly 100 km. When the acceleration is 2s, the braking is basically the fastest, the speed is 2s, 100km/h, and DJI FPV basically flies a distance of about 30m.

The camera of DJI FPV mentioned in the fourth point above does not support zooming, if the operator reduces the flying height and the distance from the main body in order to obtain good video effect. Once the operation is wrong during high-speed flight, the damage caused by collision will be more serious.

DJI FPV is not the best choice if the purpose of buying a drone is to take a smooth perspective picture of a traditional aerial camera when traveling or playing, or to shoot in a low-light scene at night. However, if you are against the stable video effect of traditional aerial cameras and want to have more fun in flight, DJI FPV will be a good choice.

When using DJI FPV, please stay away from the crowd and try to keep a safe distance from your shooting target. You need an observer to help you pay attention to your surroundings. When there is a threat to the safety of the drone or to your own safety, he can remind you in time.

For flying white flying across the plane, my suggestion is to practice with a simulator, so that the real machine will not be taken home.
