How to keep okra fresh? Can I eat it when it's dark?
First, cold storage and preservation.

This method can keep fresh for about seven days.

1. Trim the fruit stalks of okra neatly, put them in fresh-keeping bags or plastic boxes, seal them, and then wrap them in newspapers to prevent them from directly contacting the crushed ice in the freezer.

2. Wrap the newspaper and put it in the bottom of the refrigerator for cold storage.

Because okra is a tropical plant, it is afraid of cold, so the optimum temperature of refrigerator is 5 to 9 degrees, and it is easy to grow frozen spots below 4 degrees. In the refrigerator, only the lowest temperature can meet this requirement. The temperature here is about 6 to 10 degrees.

Second, quick freezing and preservation.

This method can keep fresh for 9 months, but the longer the preservation time, the more nutrients the okra loses. I suggest you try to eat it within two weeks, when there is basically no big loss of nutrients.

1. After the stem of okra is pruned, blanch it in boiling water for 0.5 ~ 1 min. Remember to add the right amount of salt to the water before ironing.

2. Immediately take the scalded okra out of the pot and soak it in cold water or ice water. After completely cooling, take out the okra and control the water.

3. Put the purified okra into a fresh-keeping bag or plastic fresh-keeping box, seal it, and freeze it in the freezer. If your refrigerator has quick-freezing function, you'd better use it.

Can okra be eaten when it is old?

Old okra is not good for cold salad or fried food, but it is actually edible. As long as you find the right way to eat, old okra is also a treasure.

For not too old okra, it is good for us to make soup, such as okra chicken soup. Not too old okra can also be sliced and dried, which is good for making tea or soup. You can't buy okra in cold weather. We might as well buy some old okra to dry and preserve, and we can also make tea or soup with okra in winter.

If the old okra is not picked in time, simply let it continue to grow for another month until the fruit of the okra is fully mature. At this time, the seeds in the okra fruit are taken out, and the tea is very fragrant. Mature okra seeds can also be used to extract oil, and the oil yield can reach about 20%, which is called okra seed oil, and the price is as high as 190 yuan/kg.
