Callan McAuliffe) and his family move to a small town, where the girl next door, Julie (Madeline Carroll), has to live with her family. Madeline Carroll) comes to help. She falls in love with him at first sight and her wish is to get a kiss from him. The two are in the same class and she has been trying to get close to him, but he avoids her. She likes to climb up the tall sycamore tree to see the view. But because of construction, the tree was going to be cut down, and she swore to defend it to the death, hoping he'd fight alongside her, but he backed down. Her exploits make the papers and Grandpa takes quite a liking to her, much to his confusion. She wins first place in the science and technology fair with her project on chickens laying eggs and becomes the center of attention, eclipsing him. She gives him her own eggs, and he secretly throws them away after hearing his family's suspicions that her eggs are unhygienic. She is saddened to learn the truth and their relationship hits an ice point. She complains to her family, sparking an argument. It turns out that her father has been saving money to take care of her stupid brother, so she is struggling to make ends meet. She understands her parents and takes matters into her own hands, with a lot of help from his grandfather. He apologized to her, but did not solve the problem. He begins to pay attention to her. Before the egg fiasco dies down, a family dinner and lunch boy selection brings the two together again...
