Gentiana rhodantha Franch. ex Hemsl. is a perennial herb with short rhizomes. The roots are thin and yellow. Stems erect. The basal leaves are rosette-shaped, oval, obovate or ovate; the stem leaves are broadly ovate. The flowers are solitary on the top of the stem, without a pedicel; the calyx is membranous, sometimes slightly purple; the corolla is light red, with purple vertical stripes on the upper part, and is tube-shaped, with the upper part slightly spreading; the stamens are born in the lower part of the crown tube, the filaments are filament-shaped, and the anthers are oval. ;Ovary oval. The capsule is hidden or only the apex is exposed, light brown, oblong, tapering at both ends, thin skin, light brown seeds, nearly round, winged. The flowering and fruiting period is from October to February of the following year. 1 Produced in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Gansu, Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, and Guangxi, China. Born in alpine shrubs, grasslands and understory, at an altitude of 570-1750 meters.
