This is herring (Latin name: Mylopharyngodon piceus；; English name: Black carp), teleost, kiwi, CYPRINIDAE, CYPRINIDAE, whitebait, herring. Black herring, black herring and snail carp, commonly known as "black mixed", "black mixed" or "snail mixed" in Anhui, are named because they are black and like to eat snails.

The body color is blue and black, and the fins are gray and black. The head is wide and flat, and the mouth is in the end position, which is unnecessary. The hypopharyngeal teeth are 1 row, which are molars. Habitat in the middle and lower levels, the staple food snails, mussels, shrimp and aquatic insects. It is distributed in all major water systems in China, mainly in the plain area south of the Yangtze River, but rare in the north of the Yangtze River. Black herring is an important fishery resource in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and lakes along the Yangtze River, and it is the main breeding object in lakes and ponds. Together with grass carp, silver carp and bighead carp, they are also called "four big fish". 4-5 years old, sexually mature, spawning in the upper reaches of rivers, and can be artificially propagated.

Black herring is large and grows rapidly, with the largest individual reaching 70kg and the body length exceeding1m. In China, it was captured in Jinniu Lake, Liuhe District, Nanjing in 2005. It is1.86m long and weighs114kg. It was made into the largest herring specimen, and was identified by scales to be about 40 years old.
