Green broad beans and ordinary broad beans are not the same species. Green-heart broad bean is a kind of broad bean unique to Baoshan. Its plants are shorter than ordinary broad beans, and the pods are smaller, but the beans are very plump. Because of its high chlorophyll content, it has white shell and green core whether it is mature or dried. Ordinary broad beans are yellow-green.

In addition, green broad beans have higher protein and amino acid content than ordinary broad beans, so they taste more delicious. Although green broad beans have become a folk specialty in Baoshan area, its production area is only a few thousand hectares, the yield is small, and its growth rate is slower than ordinary broad beans.
