Hibernation is very important for turtles. They begin to hibernate when the temperature drops below about 12 degrees. In the north, it starts from the end of October to March next year. It is best not to hibernate in the first year for newborn turtles, and it is best not to hibernate for weak and sick turtles.
①. Apply fat to clear the intestines and stomach: Start giving them nutrition supplements and add fat in September. Stop feeding about two weeks before hibernation, and in the last three or four days, soak in warm water to defecate and empty the intestines. The above is very necessary, otherwise the food left in the intestines will ferment, causing their gastric wall and intestinal tract to rupture, and they will die.
②. Arrangement of hibernation box: Use a large plastic storage box and put thick soil on it. They will get in on their own. Leave it for a few days and spray some water on the soil to keep it moist. 10--13 degrees is the optimal hibernation temperature. Don't leave it in the open air, it will freeze to death if it's below 8 degrees Celsius. Best placed in the corner of the balcony. Let the temperature drop slowly and don't let them suddenly feel cold.
③. Observe their situation at any time. Don't forget them! When the weather warms up, take the turtles out and return them to their original habitat. Do not feed them food for three days. Start feeding again on the fourth or fifth day. They've definitely lost weight. Give them more food and a good supplement. Recover as soon as possible. Turtles that successfully hibernate can give birth to babies.
No hibernation:
Do not let young turtles, weak ones and turtles bought during hibernation period hibernate. Because they did not do the work of cleaning their intestines before hibernation.
