Dongpo Su Shi's complete poem, translation and appreciation:
Full poem:
The rain washes the east slope and the moonlight is clear, and all the people in the city are walking in the wild. Don't be too dissatisfied with the winding road, the sound of self-love is loud and clear.
Translation:
The raindrops fell, washing the east slope exceptionally clean, and the moon's radiance became clear. The people in the city have long since left, and only people in the mountains and fields are roaming around here. Don’t dislike the bumpy slopes as they are not as smooth as the city. I just like the loud sound of the cane.
Appreciation:
At the beginning of the poem, Dongpo is placed in a clear scenery, showing the "clearness" of the scenery.
The second sentence of the poem seems extremely plain, but we can't help but smell the noisy atmosphere of the "city people" running around in the bustle of the city, and we can feel the noisy atmosphere of the "savages" from the "city people". The taste of a secluded person who keeps his ambitions in a remote place and is content in his arms.
The words "Don't be suspicious" and "Self-love" in the third and fourth sentences show the heroic spirit of taking risks for fun and treating danger as a risk. In the series of poems, we can feel that the author always has this cheerful, optimistic and high-spirited attitude towards the setbacks in his official career.
