2. Morphological characteristics: The lotus root is a perennial herb with a height of1.7m.. A cylindrical underground rhizome with many nodes, with scales and fibrous roots on its nodes. Stem erect, unbranched, quadrangular, mostly purplish red at nodes, hairless or hairy at nodes. Leaves alternate and opposite, with very short stipe or sessile. The lower leaves of the stem mostly fall off, and the upper leaves are oval, long, narrow, round or lanceolate, 5- 10cm long and 1.5-4cm wide, with the apex tapering, the base tapering and withered, the edge tapering and withered with irregular rough and sharp serrations, and the surface is dark green, hairless and slightly shiny.
