job's tears, also known as job's tears. Commonly known as "coix seed rice", it is a dual-purpose plant for medicine and food. It can be cultivated in the north and south of China. Coix seed is not strict with planting soil, and it can be planted in general soil, so it is advisable to choose sunny, fertile and well-drained sandy loam for planting.
sowing time, generally early-maturing varieties, in the first and middle of March. Medium-maturing varieties are in late March to early April, and late-maturing varieties are in late April to early May. Sow in time, sooner rather than later. If sowing is too late, the fruit will not mature after autumn, which will affect the yield. Sowing can adopt direct seeding and seedling transplanting. Coix lachryma-jobi is easy to suffer from smut, so it is not suitable for continuous cropping, nor for rotation with Gramineae crops, but for rotation with beans, cotton and vines.
when the height of seedlings is 5-1cm, and 3-4 true leaves grow, the seedlings should be thinned and replenished, and 2-3 strong seedlings should be left in each hole. When drilling seedlings, when the seedlings grow 2 ~ 3 true leaves, the seedlings are thinned for the first time, and the spacing between plants is 3 ~ 6 cm. When 5 ~ 6 real leaves grow, seedlings should be fixed according to the spacing between plants of 12 ~ 15 cm, and seedlings should be replenished in time if trees are missing.
coix lachryma-jobi is unisexual and belongs to the same plant with different panicles, and it is mainly pollinated by wind. If there is no wind or the wind is not strong at flowering stage, the female flowers can't be completely pollinated, and it is easy to form empty grains, resulting in reduced production. In view of this situation, in the blooming period, at noon on a sunny day, two people can walk back and forth in parallel on the two fields with ropes (long bamboo poles can be used for one person), so that the ropes (or bamboo poles) can trip over the Coix lacryma-jobi plants and make the pollen fly, which can achieve the purpose of pollination and increase the yield.
