The Epang Palace Archaeological Team, jointly established by the Institute of Archeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Xi’an Cultural Relics Protection and Archeology Institute, announced that my country’s first scientific archaeological excavation of the Epang Palace site has achieved important results: the archaeological excavation confirmed that, Epang Palace is the largest building complex in the history of our country. Historically, it is purely a misinformation that Xiang Yu burned Epang Palace. The entire tiled roof ruins consisting of 6 rows of tube tiles and 5 rows of plate tiles were discovered 1.04 meters underground at the site of the front hall of Afang Palace. It is the most significant discovery in the archaeological excavation of the site of the front hall of Afang Palace, and it is also the first archeology of the Qin Dynasty. One of the major discoveries, it is a physical witness to the grand scale of Afang Palace.
The remains of tiled roofs excavated under the ruins of the front hall of Epang Palace are each 58-62 cm long and 44-51 cm wide. They are physical witnesses to the grand scale of Epang Palace
p>Afang Palace is the proposed administrative center of the Qin Dynasty and is a large-scale palace complex. It is located south of the Wei River and across the river from Xianyang, the capital of Qin, north of the Wei River. Li Yufang, researcher at the Institute of Archeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and leader of the Epang Palace archaeological team, told reporters: "Historical Records of Xiang Yu" records: When the Qin Palace was burned, the fire did not go out for three months. Here, Sima Qian did not say that Xiang Yu burned Afang Palace, but later generations said that Afang Palace was set on fire by Xiang Yu. Our archaeological excavations have confirmed that the Xianyang Palace north of the Wei River was burned by fire, but the Epang Palace south of the Wei River was not burned by fire. Because in the past, when we excavated the Qin Xianyang Palace north of the Wei River, we discovered a large amount of red-burnt soil under the No. 1, 2, and 3 palaces. But this time when we excavated the Afang Palace south of the Wei River, we drilled 20 holes in one year. Of the more than 1,000 square meters, 1,000 square meters were excavated, and no trace of burnt earth or traces of fire was found. This proves that Epang Palace was not burned down by fire, and Xiang Yu should be vindicated on this issue.
