1. Boil water in an appliance such as a kettle, crock pot, microwave, or electric skillet.
A teapot is recommended, followed by a crock pot. Whichever you use, add as much water as you need and place it on the stove. Use either medium or high heat.
Heating in the microwave can be a bit dangerous. Place the water in an open-topped safety cup and insert a wooden chopstick or non-metallic utensil into the cup. Heat the water every minute or two until it reaches the desired temperature.
An electric kettle is convenient. Pour in a sufficient amount of water and turn on the power. Turn the knob to medium or high heat and heat for a while until the water starts to boil.
2. Weigh the ground coffee in a measuring cup. Place a sufficient amount of ground coffee into the largest measuring cup and portion out as many servings as you need.
For each cup (250 milliliters) of water, you should pair it with about 1 to 2 tablespoons (15 to 30 milliliters) of ground coffee.
When you want to make more than one cup of coffee, try to use the largest measuring cup possible.
If you don't have a large measuring cup, you can use a large insulated bowl or pitcher of water.
3. Pour hot water over ground coffee. Pour the hot water directly over the ground coffee in the measuring cup.
In this step, there is no need for any filter, the coffee powder can be dissolved directly in the hot water.
4. Let the coffee powder dissolve in the water. This process should last for 3 minutes. Give it a good stir and then steep it for another 3 minutes.
The amount of time it takes to dissolve depends on what kind of coffee you are making and how strong you want it to be. If you're using a more average quality ground coffee, 6 minutes will be able to brew a medium strength cup of coffee.
5. Strain the ground coffee as you pour it into the cup. Place a tea strainer on a mug, thermos, or regular cup and let the coffee liquid pass through the strainer. Repeat this process until all the mugs are filled.
The filter you choose needs to be able to hold back the coffee powder and prevent it from entering the mugs.
At this point, your coffee is ready to drink. Add some coffee sugar or creamer according to your needs and enjoy your coffee!
