Distributed in the former Soviet Union, as well as the middle reaches of the Heilongjiang River, the Ussuri River, the Songhua River, and the lower reaches of the Nenjiang River, it inhabits freshwater and gravelly and sandy water bottoms. The type locality of this species is in the Heilongjiang, Erguna, Shilkahai, and Ennen rivers.
