What kind of animal is commonly known as "muntjac"?
Muntjac, also known as red muntjac, is a national second-class protected animal, belonging to Cervidae. It has thin and powerful legs and is good at jumping, commonly known as "Muntjac". Because of its timid nature, the southern coastal area is also known as "Huang Jing". There are four species in China, namely black muntjac, red muntjac, small muntjac and Fijian muntjac. Among them, black muntjac has the least number and the distribution area is narrow, which has been listed as an internationally endangered animal, and Fijian muntjac has only been reported as a specimen.

Appearance characteristics:

Muntjac is a small and medium-sized deer, with a maximum weight of no more than 35 kg. The male has horns and the female has no horns, only slightly protruding in the corresponding parts. The horn base of muntjac horn is quite long and covered with fur. The corners are bent inward and downward, and basically do not diverge. After adult males grow horns, there is no report of falling off and changing horns.

There are frontal glands (except black muntjac) and infraorbital glands, but there are no attached metatarsal glands. The hair on the head is short and thin, and the lacrimal fossa is quite large. The two sides of the frontal bone are raised with osteogenic ridges, which extend backward to the base of the horn. The upper canine teeth of male animals are fangs.
