Mangji persimmon (scientific name: Garcia mangostana L.), commonly known as mangosteen, or mangosteen, mangosteen and mangosteen. Small trees, high 12-20 meters, with many and dense branches, opposite each other, and branchlets with obvious longitudinal ribs. Leaf blade is thick leathery, glossy, oval or elliptic-oblong, with short tapering tip and wide wedge-shaped or nearly round base. Male flowers 2-9 are clustered at the top of branches with short pedicels; Female flowers are solitary or paired, inserted at the top of branches, slightly larger than male flowers; Ovary 5-8-loculed, few styles, stigma 5-6 parted. The fruit is purplish red when ripe, with yellowish brown patches, smooth, with 4-5 seeds, and the aril is juicy and white. The flowering period is September-1October, and the fruiting period is11-1February. Originally from Maluku, it is widely cultivated in tropical areas of Asia and Africa; China, Taiwan Province, Fujian, Guangdong and Yunnan have also introduced or tried planting. As a famous tropical fruit, it can be eaten raw or preserved. The red pigment in the exocarp can be used to make dyes.
