The construction of the bell tower of Pisa Cathedral began in August of 1 173, and it was designed to be vertical. However, shortly after the project started (1 178), it tilted due to uneven foundation and soft soil. /kloc-0 was completed in June, 372, and the tower tilted to the southeast.
This project was interrupted twice and lasted for a long time, which took about 200 years to complete. Its designer is Nano Pisano.
The inscription found on the right wall of the entrance of the bell tower records the time when the bell tower began to be built: "MCL XXIV. Campanile hocfuit Fundatum mense Augusti ",translated as" This bell tower was laid in August of 1 173 ".

1, Galileo's free fall experiment
