[Fan Li]
A politician and military man in the late Spring and Autumn Period. He was a native of Wan (present-day Nanyang, Henan Province) in the State of Chu. He came from a lowly background. He was a general in the generalship of Yue, and worked with Wen Zi to assist Hook Jen in his endeavors. He and Wenshou assisted Houtian to rebuild the country. After a long period of preparation, he gradually made preparations for the destruction of Wu. In 484, the king of Wu had already killed Wu Zixu, a strategist, and Goujian wanted to send troops to attack Wu, but he persuaded him not to do so. In the following year, King Fu-chia of Wu led his elite troops northward to Huangchi (southwest of present-day Fengqiu, Henan Province) to fight with Jin for supremacy, leaving only the old, weak and disabled soldiers and the crown prince in the country to guard the country, which he thought was a good opportunity for attacking Wu, and then he and Goujian led the troops to attack Wu, winning a great victory. Later, he traveled to Qi. In Tao, he changed his name to Tao Zhu Gong and became rich in business. In his later years, he was fond of the Taihu Lake landscape and fish farming. Author of the "Ji Ran Chapter", "fish farming scripture". His remarks are also found in the "Guoshuu ? Yue language" and "Shiji?
