The toxicity of andrographis paniculata is very small. Mice take crude crystal 10g/kg orally, and their activities are reduced. They often close their eyes and look like sleeping. After dissection, the appearance of heart, kidney, liver and spleen is normal with naked eyes. Oral administration of 0.5g/kg per day for 10 days has no abnormality on the growth, appetite, stool, mental state, red and white blood cell count, hemoglobin and white blood cell differential count of mice.
Mice were intraperitoneally injected with 0.5g crude drug/mouse, and all the mice died within 24 hours. Those injected with water extract needed lg crude drug/mouse to have the same toxicity. 14~ deoxyandrographolide injection was injected intravenously, and the median lethal dose to mice was 0.359 0.012g/kg. The lethal dose of andrographis paniculata decoction and alcohol precipitation extract to mice by intravenous injection is 0.359 0.012g/kg.
