It is a perennial herb in the Dicotyledonaceae family, Aristolochiaceae, and the genus Hosane; the rhizomes are erect or transverse, 2-3 millimeters in diameter, with inter-nodal intervals 1-2 centimeters long, and have multiple fibrous roots. Leaves usually 2, blade cordate or ovate-cordate, apex acuminate or acute, base y cordate, tip rounded, foliage sparsely short hairy, denser on veins, abaxially only veins hairy; stamens inserted at middle of ovary, filaments subequal to or slightly longer than anthers, connectives protruding, short conical; ovary semi-inferior or nearly superior, globose, shorter, stigma lateral. Fruit subglobose, ca. 1.5 cm in diam. Fruit subglobose, about 1.5 cm in diameter, brownish yellow. Sinensis has the efficacy of dispelling wind, dispersing cold, moving water, and opening the orifices. It also has the effect of treating wind-cold headache, nasal abyss, toothache, phlegm cough, rheumatism paralysis and so on.
