Coriander can be divided into two types: small-leaf varieties and large-leaf varieties according to the size of the leaves. Excellent varieties include:
(1) Shandong Daye, a local variety in Shandong. Plant height 45 cm, large leaves, rich color, purple petiole, less fiber, strong fragrance, good quality, but poor heat resistance.
(2) Beijing coriander is a local variety in the suburbs of Beijing and has a long history of cultivation. The height of young plants is about 30 cm, and the spreading degree is 35 cm. The leaves are green, and when exposed to low temperatures, the green color becomes darker or has a purple halo. The petioles are slender and light green, with a yield of 1,500 to 2,500 kilograms per mu. It is relatively cold and drought tolerant and can be cultivated all year round.
(3) Yuanyang Autumn Coriander is a local variety in Yuanyang County, Hebei Province. The plant is tall, with a tender plant height of 42 cm, a spread of more than 30 cm, and a single plant weight of 28 grams. The tender plant has a soft texture, strong fragrance, good quality, disease resistance, heat resistance, drought resistance, and likes fertilizer. The general yield per mu is 1,200 kilograms.
(4) White-flowered coriander, also known as green-stem coriander, is a local variety in the suburbs of Shanghai. It has strong fragrance, late maturity, cold resistance, likes fertilizer, and has few pests and diseases, but the yield is low, with the yield per mu being 600 to 700 kilograms.
(5) Purple-flowered coriander is also known as purple-stemmed coriander. The plant is short and grows on the ground, with a plant height of 7 cm and a spread of 14 cm. It matures early and can be eaten about 30 days after sowing. It is cold-resistant, has strong drought resistance, and has few pests and diseases. The general yield per mu is about 1,000 kilograms.
(6) Thai heat-resistant large coriander is the latest improved variety introduced from Thailand by Jiangsu Zhongjiang Seed Industry Co., Ltd. It is particularly heat-resistant, has neat emergence, fast growth rate and high yield. The leaves are emerald green, the fragrance is strong, the fiber is low, the quality is excellent, and the marketability is good. It is the most ideal variety for efficient cultivation in summer.
