How to handle raw crabs

How to cook crabs: Crabs can be eaten raw, but they have to be marinated in wine and other seasonings for several days, so eating them raw is not easy. And if the crabs are stale, it’s no joke. Crabs can be eaten cooked, fried, steamed or boiled. Stir-frying is more troublesome, so most people steam or boil it.

Wash the crabs: No matter how you cook them, you must first wash them. You can put the crabs in the sink and soak them in water for a while. Then use a brush (you can use an old toothbrush) to brush off the sediment on the crab. Be careful not to let crabs bite you!

Steam/boil crabs: After washing the crabs, you can steam/boil them. You need to boil the water first and then put the crabs in the pot.

Adjust the sauce: While steaming/boiling the crabs, you can adjust the sauce for dipping the crabs. Start by finding a piece of fresh ginger. Wash the ginger and cut into thin strips. Put the shredded ginger in a bowl, pour some vinegar (Zhenjiang balsamic vinegar is best) into the bowl, and then put some sugar. Use chopsticks/spoon to mix the juice evenly and that's it.

After making the sauce, you can check to see if the crabs are steamed/cooked. If the blue crabs turn red, they are almost ready.

Eating crabs: After the crabs are cooled, you can eat them. First remove the round cover of the crab. If it is a female, you will see yellow crab roe on the belly. This is the tastiest thing about crabs. You will also see some white bristles-like things on both sides near the thighs, which are inedible.

After eating the crab roe, you can eat crab meat. Crab meat is white and fish-like. It is best to break the crab in half so that the white crab meat can be exposed.

Most people end up eating crab legs because eating crab legs is time-consuming and there is not much meat in the legs. But people still try to eat the legs. Some people think the meat in the legs is delicious. Eating crab legs is also a good opportunity to kill time and chat with family and friends. You have to find a way to get the meat out of the crab legs. You can use special crab tongs to break the hard shell of the legs, or you can use a toothpick or fork to get out the crab meat. Note: The crab shell is very hard and the crab legs are very pointy. Don't break your teeth!

The last step: after eating the crab, it is best to throw away the crab shell immediately, because the crab is very fishy. The pot used to steam/boil the crabs must also be thoroughly cleaned. Of course, it's best to wash your hands with soap as well.
