Baotou City has nine districts under its jurisdiction, including Donghe District, Kundulun District, Qingshan District, Shiguai District, Baiyunebo Mining Area, Jiuyuan District, Tumd Right Banner, Guyang County and Darhanmao Ming 'an Lianhe Banner.

Baotou is an important economic center of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, one of the central cities of Hubao 'e urban agglomeration and an important industrial base of China, which is approved by the State Council. It is also known as Jiuyuan, Lucheng, Grassland Steel City, China Macheng, the world rare earth capital and the world green silicon capital. It is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region with a total area of 27,768 square kilometers.
