It is said that the other names of yam are Huai Yam and Huai Yam. Actually, it is not particularly accurate. Yam is a general name, and yam generally refers to the yam produced in the area of Jiangsu and Anhui, which was called Huaiyin in in ancient times; Huaishan refers to the yam produced in Jiaozuo, Henan Province, which was called Huaiqing House in ancient times. Especially in traditional Chinese medicine, it is especially pointed out that the quality of yam in these two places is good. If yam from other places is called Huaishan or Huaishan, it is suspected of impersonation.
Traditionally, it is very common to refer to a special product by adding a place name to an item name, such as Poria cocos (produced in Yunnan), Xianglian (lotus seed produced in Hunan) and Kouma (horse produced in Inner Mongolia except Zhangjiakou).
