Poisonous. The poisonous component of Dongfeng snail is mainly haplotoxin. In the early stage, there will be stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, and slight fever, which is similar to a mild cold.

The African giant snail can be regarded as the representative intermediate host of Angiostrongylus cantonensis, with up to 60% of them being represented, and some may have thousands of worms in their bodies. Molluscs such as apple snails and slugs are also at risk for human infection with Angiostrongylus cantonensis.
