The plant belongs to the genus Shepherd's purse in the family Labiatae. The whole herb is used as medicine. Dredged in summer and fall, fresh or dried. It is pungent, slightly warm. Used for colds and headaches, sore throat, heat stroke, acute gastroenteritis, dysentery, dysuria, nephritis, edema, leucorrhoea, fried charcoal for blood in the stool, uterine bleeding. Used externally to treat bruises, traumatic bleeding, prickly heat, dermatitis, eczema, tinea pedis, multiple boils, snake bites.
