After the death of hairy crabs, they will quickly produce bacteria and harmful substances in the body, which will damage human health. Therefore, dead hairy crabs cannot be eaten.
So, how should we store fresh hairy crabs?
Method 1: Put live crabs in water.
This method is suitable for freshwater crabs such as Eriocheir sinensis and lake crab (hairy crabs), and can keep crabs alive for several days. The specific method is: find a large area, such as a bathtub, sink or big basin, put the live freshwater crabs in it, and pour some clean water. It should be noted that the water should not be too deep to cover the crabs, otherwise it may suffocate the crabs due to lack of oxygen. The depth of the water is preferably about half of the crab's body, so that the crab's eight legs can stand up and breathe on the water. In addition, don't cover the bathtub or big basin because you are worried that the crabs will climb out, then change the water several times a day, and throw some small fish and shrimps in it for the big crabs to eat.
Method 2: Put the live crabs in the fresh-keeping room of the refrigerator.
After the live hairy crabs are bought, don't untie the crab ropes and don't clean them. Put the hairy crabs on the tray, and then put the tray in the refrigerator, and control the temperature at 5-8 degrees Celsius. Then, take a wet towel, the humidity is about the degree of wiping the face, and cover the towel on the back of the hairy crab. In this way, hairy crabs can survive in the refrigerator for about a week.
In this way, we can artificially create a state similar to "dormancy" for hairy crabs. Hairy crabs are in a low temperature environment, and they can't move with help. The demand for energy is very low, and the loss is also very low. The wet towel on their back gives them water to survive, so hairy crabs can survive in the refrigerator. However, although the energy consumption of hairy crabs in the refrigerator is very low, it will definitely be lost in order to maintain life. Therefore, hairy crabs will inevitably become thinner and the taste is definitely not as good as that of fresh hairy crabs.
Method 3: Put the cooked crabs in the refrigerator.
There may be many people who have not finished eating crabs because of poor appetite or other reasons. If you want to leave the crabs at noon to eat at night, you might as well wrap the cooked crabs with plastic wrap and put them in a cool and ventilated place, which can keep them fresh for 6-8 hours. If the weather is hot, it's best to put it in the refrigerator, so it can be kept until the evening, but it can't stay overnight. If you want to eat crabs after the night or after a few days, you can cover the cooked crabs with plastic wrap, and then put them in the freezer together with the soup for boiling crabs, which can better maintain the delicate flavor of crabs. However, it should be noted that crabs and soup should not be put in the refrigerator when they are still hot, and then put them in the freezer after they are completely cooled.
It also needs to be reminded that the refrigerator is not a safe. If the hairy crabs are stored in the refrigerator in the above way, it is still possible that the hairy crabs will die. If the crabs are found dead, they cannot be eaten. If the inexhaustible crabs are not properly preserved, they may cause food poisoning, abdominal pain, diarrhea and even gastroenteritis, which will bring great harm to health.
