Ophiopogon japonicus originated in China, but also distributed in Japanese, Vietnamese and Indian. It is cultivated in southern China and other places. Born on a hillside, under a forest or in a damp place by a stream below 2000 meters above sea level.
Extended data
Ophiopogon japonicus likes warm and humid, and can grow normally in a climate with abundant rainfall at 5-30℃. The optimum growth temperature is 15-25℃, and the growth stops when it is lower than 0℃ or higher than 35℃. In the process of growth, water demand is large and sufficient light is needed, especially in the period of root expansion, which can promote root expansion.
Ophiopogon japonicus has special requirements for soil conditions, which is suitable for weak alkaline sandy loam with loose, fertile and moist soil and good drainage. The planting soil is too heavy, which affects the occurrence and growth of fibrous roots. The root tuber grows poorly, the sand is heavy, the water and fertilizer retention ability is weak, the plant grows poorly and the yield is low.
It is most suitable for planting in the first and second terraces of river alluvial dams. River alluvial dam is flat, and the soil is mostly new alluvial soil, and the soil has moderate sand adhesion, which can meet the growth needs of Ophiopogon japonicus. The first and second terraces of the river can form a self-flow irrigation canal network, and its irrigation conditions can provide the water demand of Ophiopogon japonicus.
