Jiangtuan—a valuable freshwater economic fish unique to China.
The Jiang Tuan fish belongs to the order Caturiformes, the family Cataceae, and the genus A., also known as catfish. It is commonly known as the Jiang Tuan fish, the fat Tuo fish, and the fat king fish. People in Huainan also call it the Huai king fish. Because its nose is longer than other fish, it is called a long nose. Mainly distributed in some reaches of the Yangtze River main stream and the lower reaches of major tributaries. The general individual weight is 1.0-5.0kg, which is a medium-sized fish.
The meat of the fish is delicious, tender and nutritious. It has always been used as a tribute to the imperial court. Before the 1970s, all fisheries relied on rivers, and artificial breeding began in the 1980s. Due to long-term overfishing, the ecological resources of this species have been severely depleted. They are mostly bred in ponds, cages and factories.
The longnose fish is distributed in the Liaohe River, Huaihe River, Yangtze River, Minjiang River to the Pearl River and other water systems in eastern China and in western Korea. Due to long-term regional differences, compared with the Yangtze River, the Huaihe longnose fish is smaller. The growth rate is slower and the body color is different.
