The syndrome of this prescription is mostly caused by insufficient spleen yang, cold is generated from it, and dampness accumulates to form drinks. Cold drinks injure the lungs. This is "cold drinks in the form of cold will damage the lungs" ("Lingshu·Evil Qi Zangfu Organs") "Sickness") meaning. Cold drinks stop the lungs, and the dispersion and descending are inconsistent, so coughs with excessive phlegm, which is thin and white in color; drinking cold drinks blocks the Qi mechanism, so the chest is full and uncomfortable; drinking evil invades the stomach, causing salivation. Treatment should be to warm yang and transform into drinks. The recipe uses dried ginger as the king, which not only warms the lungs and dissipates cold to resolve fluids, but also warms and transports spleen yang to resolve dampness. I take Asarum and take its pungent nature to warm the lungs and dissipate cold. It helps dry ginger to warm the lungs, dissipate cold and transform fluids. Poria cocos is used to invigorate the spleen and exude dampness, transform fluids and promote diuresis. It can guide the evil of fluids and urinate from urine. Then, to eliminate the source of raw drinking, combine with dried ginger to warm and exfoliate, strengthen the spleen and help transportation. In order to prevent dry ginger and asarum from damaging the lung qi, Schisandra chinensis is also used to astringe the lungs and relieve cough. Together with dry ginger and asarum, one is warming, one is dispersing and the other is astringent. The function of opening and closing is a common combination used by Zhongjing to warm the lungs and transform drinks. Use licorice and Chinese medicine.
