Sino-Soviet energy cooperation has also expanded to other fields. The first phase of the Geely Power Plant, which China helped to build, has been completed, with an installed capacity of 200,000 kilowatts, accounting for a quarter of Sudan's existing total installed capacity. The second phase of the project under construction will also have an installed capacity of 200,000 kilowatts, which will completely meet the power demand of Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. The Mailuowei Dam project, built by China, has an installed capacity of1250,000 kilowatts. When it is completed at the end of 2008, it will not only solve the problem of insufficient power supply in Sudan, but also export some electricity.
Third, Sino-Soviet energy cooperation has greatly increased local employment opportunities, with direct employment exceeding100000. In Party A's unit of Sino-Soviet Petroleum Cooperation Company, Chinese staff only account for 10%, while Soviet staff as much as 90%. In Party B's unit, the proportion of Soviet staff is as high as 65%. The indirect employment opportunities generated by the development of the oil industry are even more considerable.
China not only helps Sudan develop energy and mining, but also helps to train local enterprise managers, engineers and technicians and workers, laying a personnel foundation for the sustainable development of energy and mining in Sudan. In addition, China Company also built supporting facilities such as roads, hospitals and water supply in the local area, which significantly improved the living environment of local residents.
China helped Sudan develop its economy without attaching any conditions, and did not take the opportunity to interfere in Sudan's internal affairs, thus setting an example for establishing a new type of international relations.
