Jin Opera is an important opera genre in northern China, circulating in north-central Shanxi Province, central Inner Mongolia, northern Shaanxi Province, and western Hebei Province, roughly in the areas of Jin's Hezhou, Lvliang, and Zhanghou Pieces, as well as in parts of the Dabao Pieces and the Wutai Pieces.
Because it originated in central Shanxi Province, it is also known as Zhonglu Bangzi (中路梆子), or Shanxi Bangzi (山西梆子), and Jin Opera is also known as Kou Bangzi (口梆子), or "mouth bangzi" in the Zhangjiakou area.
