Introduction of Spring Festival

In ancient China, the main thing to do during the Spring Festival was to play with ghosts. "Laba" eats "Laba porridge" and plays ghosts in the court and the people. On the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month, the "Kitchen God", who dominates good and bad luck, was sacrificed to get enough food and clothing.

During this period, we should also clean up the filth and prevent diseases. On the 30th, we will put up a door-keeper, put up couplets, hang flags, eat jiaozi, set off firecrackers, "stand guard" on New Year's Eve, and pay New Year greetings to each other on New Year's Day.

On the thirtieth day of the twelfth lunar month, why do people put a door god on the door? There is a legend that Emperor Taizong was ill one day, and in his dream he heard a "ghost" calling and fidgeting. People Qin, Weichi Gong, dressed neatly and armed to the teeth, stood outside the door. That night, Taizong never had nightmares again. Later, he ordered the painter to paint portraits of Qin and Weichi Gong and hang them on the gate of the palace. This is the so-called door god. Later, people followed suit and posted this image to avoid evil spirits.

Spring Festival couplets have a long history. Couplets originated from ancient peach symbols. According to Huainanzi, peach symbols are made of peach wood. In the Five Dynasties, the court of Houshu began to write couplets on peach symbols. The late master Meng Changjun once wrote: "Qing Yu is in the New Year and Changchun is in Jiaxu Festival." It is said that this is the earliest couplet in China. After Zhu Yuanzhang made Nanjing his capital in the Ming Dynasty, he ordered all families to post couplets. The Qing Dynasty's "Yanjing Years" said: "Spring Festival couplets are also from Fu Tao. Since entering the customs, some scholars have written Spring Festival couplets under the eaves of the streets in order to polish their writing style. After the sacrifice, it gradually sticks and hangs, and thousands of families are completely new. " It can be seen that since the Five Dynasties, congratulations have changed the elusive curse. Later, Fu Tao was replaced by Spring Festival couplets written on red paper.

Why is the Spring Festival also called Chinese New Year?

According to legend, in ancient China, there was a monster named Xi. It had long tentacles and was very fierce. Often eat livestock, hurting people's lives. So that people outside the village fled to the deep mountains to avoid the harm of nocturnal animals.

On New Year's Eve this year, people in Taohua Village took refuge in the mountains, anxious and panicked. At this time, a child came from outside the village and saw an old woman asking why. Hearing this, the child laughed: "Mother-in-law, my name is Nian. Let me stay at home for one night, and I will definitely drive away the evening beast. " The old woman looked at him carefully in surprise and found that he had an extraordinary world view. But she continued to persuade, and Nian smiled without a word. My mother-in-law had no choice but to leave home and take refuge in the mountains.

In the middle of the night, the evening beast broke into the village. It found that the atmosphere in the village was different from previous years: the old woman's house at the east end of the village had red paper on the door and bright candles in the room. Evening beast was a shake, animal. Glaring at her mother-in-law's house for a while, then barking at her. Near the door, there was a sudden banging noise in the hospital, and the evening beast trembled and dared not go any further. It turns out that the evening beast is most afraid of red, fire and explosion. At this time, my mother-in-law's door was wide open, and I saw a child wearing a red robe laughing in the hospital. Evening beast frightened to disgrace, fled.

The next day, the people who came back from refuge were very surprised to see that the village was safe and sound. At this time, the old woman suddenly realized and quickly told the villagers the promise in 2008. Villagers flocked to the old woman's house, only to find red paper on her mother-in-law's door, a pile of unburned bamboo still exploding in the yard, and several red candles still glowing in the house. In order to celebrate the auspicious arrival, ecstatic villagers put on new clothes and hats one after another and went to their relatives and friends' homes to congratulate and say hello. The story soon spread in the surrounding villages, and people knew the way to drive away the night animals. To this end, everyone went to pay New Year's greetings, which is now "New Year's greetings" (the origin of New Year's greetings), and called New Year's Eve (the origin of New Year's Eve).

Since then, every year on New Year's Eve, every family has posted red couplets and set off firecrackers. Every household has a bright candlelight, so it is better to wait for the New Year. In the early morning of the first day, I want to say hello to my relatives and friends. This custom spread more and more widely and became the most solemn traditional festival in China.
