Durian will open before it is ripe. You can use room temperature ripening method, refrigeration preservation method, or fruit ripening method.
1. Room temperature ripening
If the durian is opened and the flesh is not yet ripe, you can wrap the opened durian with plastic wrap to reduce the contact between the outside air and the pulp to avoid deterioration. Then store the durian at room temperature for two to three days, and the pulp will become soft and mature.
2. Refrigeration and preservation
Take out the durian meat, wrap and seal it in fresh-keeping bags, put it into a crisper box, and place it in the refrigerator compartment to extend the freshness time of the durian and wait. After a week, the durian will be ripe.
3. Fruit ripening
Prepare a clean fresh-keeping bag or carton, put the opened durian in it, and then add ripe bananas and apples. Utilize the natural ripening agents emitted by ripe fruits to ripen durian as quickly as possible. Note that during ripening, the carton should be closed to avoid poor ripening effect.
Tips for purchasing durian
1. When choosing durian, you can look at the color. If the outer shell of the durian is cyan or yellow-green, it means that the fruit is not fully mature yet and you need to wait for a while. If the outer shell of the durian is golden or translucent yellow, it means the durian is fully ripe.
2. When choosing durian, you can look for the spikes. The spikes on the durian will gradually become rounder and shorter as the fruit grows. Therefore, the spikes of mature durian are smaller and rounded, while the spikes on the surface of unripe durian are longer and sharp, which can easily prick the hand.
3. When choosing durian, you should look for cracks. When the durian is mature, cracks will appear on the shell. This type of durian is easy to peel and has a better taste. But the bigger the cracks, the better the quality is not. Durian with too big cracks has been over-ripened and will suffer serious water loss. It is best to choose durians with slight cracks.
