Alfalfa (scientific name: Medicago ruthenica (L.) Trautv.) is a leguminous plant. It is a perennial herb with a taproot deep into the soil and a well-developed root system. The inflorescence is umbrella-shaped, the pedicel is axillary, the bracts are spiny, the corolla is yellow-brown, and the center is dark red to purple striped. The pods are oblong or ovate-oblong, flat. It has high feeding value and rich nutrition, and is a favorite forage for various livestock, poultry and fish. In addition, alfalfa has the effects of clearing heat, detoxifying, relieving cough, and stopping bleeding, so it also has high medicinal value.
