Bengbu City (pinyin: Bèngbù), referred to as mussel for short, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province of the People's Republic of China, an important hub city of Anhui Province, a business center, a processing and manufacturing center and a post and telecommunications command and dispatch center in northern Anhui Province. Bengbu is located at the intersection of beijing-shanghai railway and Huainan railways at the southern tip of North China Plain, with the Huaihe River passing through the city and near Fengyang and Nanjing. Bengbu area was named "Pearl City" because it was rich in mussels in ancient times.
