Bengbu City (pinyin: Bèngbù), referred to as mussel for short, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province of the People's Republic of China, an important hub city of Anhui Province, a business center, a processing and manufacturing center and a post and telecommunications command and dispatch center in northern Anhui Province. Bengbu is located at the intersection of beijing-shanghai railway and Huainan railways at the southern tip of North China Plain, with the Huaihe River passing through the city and near Fengyang and Nanjing. Bengbu area was named "Pearl City" because it was rich in mussels in ancient times. At the beginning of 1947, Bengbu was established as a city directly under Anhui province, and it was the first prefecture-level city in Anhui province to establish a city, and it was a provincial city (A.D. 1947). The whole city of Bengbu covers an area of 5,952 square kilometers, of which the urban area is 60 1.5 square kilometers. By the end of 20 12, the total registered population of Bengbu including three counties was 367.8 1 10,000, and the permanent population was 3183,000, including the urban permanent population10. Bengbu City has four municipal districts, namely Longzihu District, bengshan district, Yuhui District and Huaishang District, and three counties, namely Huaiyuan County, Wuhe County and Guzhen County.
