Wenchang Chicken originated in Tanniu Town, Wenchang City, Hainan Province. It is an ancient and excellent breed of chicken formed through hundreds of years of artificial selection. It is a healthy, nutritious and delicious pollution-free green food, ranking first among the four famous dishes in Hainan.

Wenchang chicken is square in shape, with the characteristics of small head, small neck and feet, short neck and short feet. The weight of adult chickens is: cock1.6—1.8kg, hen1.35—1.6kg. The first day of delivery is 120 days, and the early maturity performance is sudden, and the cock 2 1 day-old crown has developed obviously. Strong reproductive performance, under the condition of cage culture, the annual output is above 150, and the fertilization rate and hatching rate are above 90%. When the cock is 70-80 days old, its weight is1.2-1.31kg, and the feed-meat ratio is about 3.0. Hens110-120 days old weigh about1.3-1.4 kg, and the feed-meat ratio is 3.5-3.8.
