Morphological features deciduous tree, up to about 20 meters high. Branchlets smooth, yellow-brown or lighter, with lamellar pith. Skin, branches and leaves contain gum. Leaves alternate; elliptic or ovate, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate, margin serrate, young leaves sparsely covered with pilosebaceous skin above, densely hairy below, old leaves smooth above, sparsely hairy at the veins below; April to May flowering, flowers unisexual, dioecious, opening at the same time as the leaves, or opening before the leaves, borne in the axils of the basal bracts of the annual branches, with a petiole; no perianth; five to ten stamens. June to September fruit, the fruit is flat, long ellipsoid, 2-3.5 cm long, with membranous wings around, containing 1 seed. Bark in 4 ~ 6 peeling is preferred, while fresh, scrape off the coarse skin, brush off the soil, fresh or stacked, the inner skin is purple-brown after drying standby.
