In the past, filth was not enough to boast, but today's debauchery is endless.
In the spring wind the proud horse ran a two-beat pace. I toured all sceneries of Chang'an in a day with grace.
Vernacular translation:
In the past, the difficulties in life and the embarrassment in thought are no longer worth mentioning. Nowadays, in to be no.1, the sullen sulks have gone like the wind, and my heart is really inexhaustible. I really want to embrace this nature.
Riding on Chang 'an Road, which is full of spring flowers, today's horseshoes are particularly light, and I have already seen the prosperous flowers in Chang 'an before I know it.
Extended data
At the beginning of this poem, I express my feelings directly, recounting the difficulties in life and the embarrassment in thought in the past, which is no longer worth mentioning. It vividly depicts the poet's triumphant state and expresses his elated pride.
The beauty of these two sentences lies in the emotion and scenery, which vividly depicts the poet's proud scene of galloping on Chang' an Road with blooming spring flowers. According to the Tang system, the Jinshi exam was held in autumn, and the ranking was issued in the following spring. It can be seen that the spring breeze and the flowers at once are the actual situation.
The first two sentences of this poem compare the author's frustrated situation in the past with the proud situation of obtaining fame today, highlighting the boiling thoughts when he leaps into a new world today; The last two sentences say that he galloped triumphantly across the horse in the spring breeze, and saw the flowers in Chang 'an in one day, showing an extremely cheerful mood. The whole poem has a brisk rhythm, which is unique in Meng's poems of "thinking hard and strange".
