1. Look at the shape of the pomegranate. When choosing pomegranates, don’t pick those that are particularly round. Choose those that are somewhat square in shape and have edges. Because round pomegranates generally have thicker skins, while pomegranates with angular shapes will taste better and have thinner skins.
2. Look at the tail part of the pomegranate. There will be a chrysanthemum-shaped crack at the bottom of the pomegranate, which refers to the pomegranate buds. Some are blooming, and some are not fully blooming. If the pomegranate chrysanthemums are blooming, it means it is fully ripe. The pomegranate will taste full and juicy. The more mature the pomegranate, the more the cracks will open, if there is no pomegranate in bloom. The taste of this kind of pomegranate will be very green and astringent, which is often difficult to swallow.
3. Look at the color of pomegranate. The most common pomegranate peel colors on the market include cyan, red, yellow, etc. Many of us think that the redder the pomegranate, the sweeter it will be. In fact, this is a misunderstanding. There are many varieties of pomegranates, and different varieties have different tastes. Generally speaking, the skin of red pomegranates will be red after being exposed to sufficient sunlight, but the taste inside will be relatively sour. As for the yellow pomegranate, the skin is yellow without sufficient sunlight, but the seeds inside are as red as agate. Pomegranates with green skin have relatively poor taste and sweetness.
4. Choose heavy pomegranates. When selecting two pomegranates of the same size, weigh them in the palm of your hand. The heavier one means more water, juicier taste, and fresher taste. So when we choose pomegranates, it is best to choose heavier ones.
5. Pinch the skin to see if it is hard. Generally, you can pinch the skin of a ripe pomegranate with your hands. If you pinch a fresh, ripe pomegranate, it will feel hard and full. When you pinch it and the surface is soft, you have to be careful. The inside of such a pomegranate may not be fresh anymore.
