OUR NAME Symbolizing the tradition and spirit of women’s education in Korea
The name Ewha was bestowed by Emperor Gojong in 1 887 to commemorate the beginning of women’s education in Korea. It serves not merely as a name of this time-honored institution but as a symbol of the tradition and spirit of women’s education in Korea.

The school name of "Pear Flower" was 1887 when Emperor Gaozong of North Korea founded the first female education in South Korea. At the same time, in order to commemorate this important event, the school name is still in use today. Pear Blossom' is no longer the name of a pure educational institution, but also a symbol of the tradition and spirit of Korean women's education.

International exchange programs: The world is our classroom
Ewha produces strong students capable of working in all corners of the world through diverse and practical international exchange programs. Every year , over 1,600 Ewha students participate in a wide range of short- and long-term educational programs overseas, thus fulfilling a shared dream of humanity. Through dual and joint degree programs, as well as exchange and visiting student programs, with overseas universities, Ewha is leading academic exchange across borders. Particularly popular among students is the Faculty-led Study Abroad Program, Ewha’s signature educational program, in which professors plan their own programs and travel with students to universities or institutions around the world to participate in joint classes and seminars over a period of seven to ten days, and the Ewha Global Initiative exploration program, which sends students to United Nations offices, embassies, government agencies and university research institutes around the world, develops students’ global capacities. With its leading role in exchange programs, Ewha has also been selected for six consecutive years as the only Korean partner university for the Ewha-Harvard College in Asia Program, an Asian international exchange program hosted by Harvard undergraduates.

Ewha Women's University trains elite students with the ability to work all over the world through various practical international exchange programs. Every year, more than 1600 pear college students participate in a large number of overseas short-term and long-term education projects to realize the dream of human beings. Ewha Women's University leads cross-border academic exchanges through double-degree and cooperative degree programs with overseas universities, as well as student exchange and visiting programs. Especially popular among students are overseas study programs led by professors. This is the signature education project of Pear University. Professors design their own projects and go to universities or institutions around the world with students, and attend the same courses and seminars in seven to ten days. There is also the global development exploration project of Ewha University, which will send students to UN agencies, embassies, government agencies and university research institutions around the world to develop their international competitiveness. With its leading position in the exchange program, Lidan has been selected as the Pear Flower-Harvard Asia College Project for six consecutive years, and it is also the only cooperative university in South Korea. The Asian international exchange program is hosted by Harvard undergraduates.

Ewha Women's University was founded in 1886. It was a missionary school in the early days of its establishment, and pear university is now full of peaches and plums. It has become one of the world-famous women's universities with 140000 graduates, 2 1000 students, 14 colleges and 13 graduate schools. In 2003, Pear University proudly owned 14 colleges, 68 majors, 3 expert research projects, 9 special research projects, postgraduate courses in 50 fields, doctoral courses in 45 fields, 3 interdisciplinary course and 8 degrees related to the private sector and other research institutions. The number of international students from all over the world, including China, the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Nigeria and Sweden, is constantly growing, which makes pear university a truly international university.

Ewha conducts international exchange programs with prestigious universities around the world. Over 3, 000 students from more than 60 countries visit Ewha each year through various short- and long-term programs to experience Ewha’s leading global infrast ructure and quality education. Ewha International Summer College, which was first launched in 197 1 and is the oldest program of its kind, invites outstanding professors from overseas universities and provides a range of courses taught in English to male and female undergraduates from the Americas, Europe and Asia, as well as Ewha students. Ewha-Harvard Summer School Program, launched in 2006 as part of its summer session, also offers courses in English and gives Ewha students an opportunity to join Harvard students in lectures on Korean culture taught by the Harvard fac ulty and participate in a variety of academic and cultural activities. Also, more international students have been pursuing their bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees at Ewha, and academic and research exchange has grown among professors from Ewha and other top universities around the world, thus bolstering Ewha’s position as a truly global university.

Lihua International Summer School, first established in 197 1 year, is the oldest project of its kind. It invites famous professors from overseas universities to provide a series of English courses for male and female undergraduates and pear students from America, Europe and Asia. The pear blossom-Harvard summer school project, as a part of the summer program, was established in 2006. It also provides English courses, which gives pear students the opportunity to participate in Korean culture courses taught by Harvard professors and participate in a variety of academic and cultural activities. In addition, more and more international students are studying for bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctor's degree in pear university. There are more and more academic and research exchanges between professors of Pear University and other famous universities in the world. These have established the position of Ewha Women's University as a truly international university.
