How did humans discover that bird's nest can be eaten?
People in China have been eating bird's nest for more than 500 years. According to historical records, Zheng He, the eunuch of Sambo, a famous navigator in Ming Dynasty, was the first person to eat bird's nest in China. During Zheng He's voyage to the Western Ocean, his ocean-going fleet was caught in a severe storm at sea and was forced to stop at a desert island in the Lai Islands. Due to the shortage of food, they accidentally found the bird's nest hidden on the cliff, so they ordered the soldiers to pick and stew it to satisfy their hunger. Within a few days, the soldiers were all rosy and angry. After returning home, Zheng He presented the bird's nest he had picked to Ming Chengzu. Since then, eating bird's nest has become the privilege of the emperor and the royal family, and bird's nest is also regarded as a rare tonic.
