Sun Simiao is a native of Jingzhao Huayuan (now Yaozhou District, Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province). According to legend, he is a descendant of Qu Yuan, a doctor of Chu, a medical scientist and a Taoist priest in the Tang Dynasty, and was honored as the "King of Medicine" by later generations.
