NovaMin is a bioactive glass-ceramic material. The active ingredient is calcium sodium phosphosilicate (calcium sodium phosphosilicate). Initially found that this material can close the exposed dentin tubules, that can be used for the treatment of dentin sensitivity, subsequent studies have found that this bio-glass has a good remineralization effect, can prevent the demineralization of the tooth surface and acid erosion, but also found that the addition of fluoride NovaMin on the caries site of the remineralization of the caries repair will be strengthened. Studies have shown that when it acts in the oral environment, sodium calcium phosphosilicate reacts with water and saliva, and ion exchange occurs within one minute, releasing calcium (Ca2+) and phosphate (PO43-) ions continuously, and the local pH of the oral cavity is temporarily elevated, which further promotes the deposition of calcium and phosphate ions in the material and saliva on the surface of the teeth. As the reaction continues, Ca-P complexes continue to be deposited, the sedimentary layer gradually crystallized to generate hydroxyapatite (HCA), the residual sodium calcium phosphosilicate particles and HCA mixed cover closed dentin tubules, theoretically believed to have the treatment of dentin sensitivity, to promote the remineralization of the tooth surface, repair of defective surfaces, and prevention of dental caries.
