Morphological features perennial herb. Underground rhizome nodular cylindrical or lumpy, 1 to 4 cm in diameter, surface gray-brown or black-brown. Stem erect, 30-80 cm tall, with sparse arachnoid hairs or glabrous. Leaves alternate, lower and middle stem leaves eight to twelve centimeters long, five to eight centimeters wide, lyrate pinnatipartite or semilobed, lateral lobes 1 to 2 pairs or 3 to 4 pairs, elliptic, long elliptic, or obovate-oblong elliptic, 0.5 to 2 centimeters wide, apical lobe 1.5 to 4.5 centimeters wide; sometimes the lower and middle stem leaves are undivided. Or all stem leaves are undivided, leaf blade obovate, long obovate, oblanceolate or long oblanceolate, 2-9 cm long, 1.5-5 cm wide, upper leaf bases sometimes with 1-2 pairs of triangular spiny-toothed lobes. All leaves are glabrous, hard textured, with needle-like hairs or triangular prickly teeth on the margins. June-October flowering, flowers white or purplish-blue, forming heads borne singly at the top of branches; involucre ca. 1.5 cm in diameter, involucral bracts acicular-pinnatisect or parted; all tubular flowers. Fruiting from June to October, the fruit is hairy, with bristle-like crown hairs at the tip, ca. 8 mm long, joining into a ring at the base. The roots are best dug in spring and fall, and dried in the sun.

Treatment: night blindness. Fifth formula: 10 grams of Cangzhu, 5 grams of Houpu, 3 grams of Chenpi, 3 grams of licorice.

Use: Decoction with water.

Treatment: dyspepsia, loose stools with little food, chest tightness and abdominal distension, vomiting and greasy mouth. Sixth formula: Cangzhu appropriate amount Usage: take the above medicine, cut it into a cone shape, stab several small holes in the center, plug into the external ear canal, and then put the moxa column on the Cangzhu and ignite it. Each time five to seven strong, daily or every other day, 10 times for a course of treatment. Contraindicated for pregnant women.

Treatment: tinnitus. Seventh formula: 10 grams of Cangzhu, 15 grams of Coix lacryma, 10 grams of cypress, 10 grams of hyssop.

Use: Decoction with water.

Treatment: knee joint swelling and pain, lower limb rheumatic pain. Formula 8: Cangzhu appropriate amount.

Use: Take the above medicine and grind it into fine powder. Daily 3 grams, divided into 3 times with boiled water, children discretionary reduction.

Treatment: conjunctival dryness.
