General situation of the 28th Summer Olympic Games

The 28th Summer Olympic Games was held in Athens, Greece, from August/KLOC-0 to 29, 2004.

Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Movement and the venue of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, once bid for two Olympic Games in 1996 and 2000, but failed. Especially for the 26th Olympic Games in 1996, Athens, which is full of ambition, wants to seize the right to host the games to celebrate the100th anniversary of the founding of the modern Olympic Games, and is confident of winning the bid. But unexpectedly, Atlanta, USA, broke out halfway and snatched the right to host the Olympic Games. This failure rankles the Greeks. Athens bid for the 2004 Olympic Games for the third time in a row.

With the increasing popularity of the Olympic movement and the increasing commercial benefits of hosting the Olympic Games, more and more countries have expressed interest in hosting the Olympic Games. The bid for this Olympic Games is no exception. There are 10 cities around the world that have formally applied. Besides Athens, the final five cities are Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa, Rome, Italy and Stockholm, Sweden. 1On September 5, 1997, at the106th plenary session of the International Olympic Committee held in Lausanne, Switzerland, it was decided that Athens won the right to host the Olympic Games. After a lapse of 108, the Olympic Games finally returned to its hometown of Greece.

Although Greece won the hard-won right to host the Olympic Games, their preparations were so slow that the International Olympic Committee once considered changing the venue of this Olympic Games in 2000. Since then, the Greek organizers have stepped up their work, and on the eve of the start of the Games, they finally managed to finish the preparatory work, so that the Olympic Games can proceed smoothly. However, because the swimming venue has no time to build a roof, the athletes participating in the afternoon can only stand the test of hot sun and heat. Fortunately, the most important competitions such as semi-finals and finals are arranged in the evening when the water temperature and air temperature are relatively low, so that athletes can play their highest level in the most important competitions.

The architecture of some venues in Athens Olympic Games was not only praised, but what is more admirable is that Athens has incomparable advantages over any other city. The men's and women's shot put competitions in the track and field events of this Games were held in the ancient Olympia Stadium, which made people relive the sacredness and glory of the ancient Olympic Games. The Panathinaiko Stadium, which hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, has been rearranged to host the archery and marathon competitions in this tournament. Carles Kaji Stadium, which was once used as the cycling venue of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, has been rebuilt and become the venue for this year's men's and women's football matches. The route of the marathon is completely the original route that the legendary Greek warrior Philippidis ran when delivering the message in 490 BC.

Due to the rampant international terrorism in recent years, the Athens Olympic Games has further strengthened the security work, and the organizing committee has used 45,000 security staff. People involved in the security work include police, army, coast guard, fire brigade, private bodyguards and specially trained volunteers. Despite the extremely strict security measures, the ticket sales of the conference are still not satisfactory. Until the official opening of the Games in August 13, less than half of all the 5.2 million tickets were sold. In the first few days after the start of the games, there were thousands of vacant seats in the stands of many events. However, this situation soon improved, especially in the track and field competitions at night, and the stands with a capacity of 70,000 people were full. The venues of other events were almost packed in the last week of the conference.
